Let's talk about this song with perfect timing that adds to vast musical work created by Cherie Currie throughout the years. Cherie Currie and Dave Schulz just released this beautiful song. I could come up with other words to define the song but its just damn beautiful. It will be released to the public October 2. 2020, but you can watch the video now. above WHAT THE WORLD NEED NOW IS LOVE SWEET LOVE and yes we really do. I know we all could use a big hug right now so consider this song your virtual hug.
To redo this song was Cherie's idea and Currie’s friend and former Goo Goo Dolls and Berlin band member Dave Schulz, was immediately on board to help her produce the song, originally performed by Jackie DeShannon. An Anthem to the 60's era of civil rights, women's rights, war and love in's. You may have to look up what a love in was.
Dave Schulz, also sings and plays keyboards on the track. This song still holds true 55 years after its release. Along with Schulz and nearly a dozen of their musical friends contributed to this song.
Filmed while in quarantine, everyone filmed their parts separately. The video edited by Sammy Burke, features Currie, Dave and an epic collection of musicians including bassist Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, John Lennon) drummer Randy Cooke (Ringo Starr, Dave Stewart, Colbie Caillat), and Burt Bacharach’s violinist Eliza James with additional backing vocals were provided by Sharlotte Gibson (Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Nine Inch Nails), and Currie’s longtime friend, singer Julie Ragins (Moody Blues, Queen Latifah). The video has a special guest star in the back-round if you look closely. It starts out in black and white to fit the era it was written in and by the end of this beautifully crafted video its is in full color with a build of vocals that reach the heavens.

Let me dig a little into the history of Cherie Currie. Cherie started out as the lead singer of band, The Runaways at age 15. If you don't know The Runaways, you should. If you don't know who Cherie Currie is, do some homework please. Now there are a couple other Runaways band members that have risen to fame but I am not mentioning them by name today. Why? Because Cherie Currie stands on her own and always has. I will mention the song Cherry Bomb because it is timeless and even the youngest of generations knows the song. I have witnessed children singing that song at the top of their lungs and as the get older they can figure out the content of that song and what the band The Runaways contributes to music history. Funny thing is Cherie never considered herself a singer. She is a hell of a singer and keeps getting better.
Her newest album, Blvds Of Splendor was released in 2020 by Black Heart Records. The album was recorded over ten years ago and why it sat on the shelf at Black Heart for that long is beyond comprehension. It is a crime really. It is out now and you really need to check it out. Many well known musicians played on that album but its sound is total Cherie Currie. The music is flowing from her veins on that album. I can feel every lyric. Every note played. Every emotion floating. Blvds of Splendor, is the best album of her career. Don't take my word for it. Give it a listen.
Cherie also Released an Album with Brie Darling in 2019 and it is musical art that should be heard.
Why is all this happening at the age of sixty? Because it should. Why not? The days of women being pushed out of this business because of ageism is gone, Look around. Women are rocking, They are charting, They are selling music. Cherie is better and stronger than ever and I don't see anyone getting in her way, If they do, look out!
