Vulnerability In Piano

I’ve never been one to gravitate towards instrumental music, but the new album out from Alanah Sabatini has me giving this genre another look. Lullabies-Vol 1 is a collection of pieces arranged and composed by Alanah into a soothing work of art.

Alanah has been playing the piano since she was 4 years old and has a way of infusing her songs with emotion. While some people use words in poetry or lyrics to express themselves, Alanah has managed to fill these 11 songs with intense feelings. So much so, that words are not necessary.

This collection of songs is arranged chronologically to share her story. It has taken 3 years for this album to take shape, and takes the listener on a mental and emotional journey. While there may not be words, the rough path she has had to traverse is evident. Each song is crafted about a different time, or event, in her life and has allowed her to work through tough emotions.

Songs like “Letting Go”, “Turning Point”, and “”Release” are indications of her triumph over hardship and struggles. These songs are her way of exposing herself and showing true vulnerability.

Music like this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it is worth a listen; whether it is background while you work or something relaxing to sleep to. Just as she uses the piano as a way to express her feelings, listeners can use her music as a way to calm their mind and look inward. Take a listen and let her piano help guide you to a place of understanding and perhaps allow you to feel and process something you have not been able to.
